Dog Beds - A Complete Guide - Percys Pet Products

Did you know that on average dogs can sleep up to 12 hours a day? That’s potentially a lot of time spent on their bed, and with that in mind, how much thought do you put into which dog bed is right for them?

What size do you buy?

Your dog needs bed that is large enough for them to have full freedom to stretch out or curl up during their pattern of sleep as well as be easy for your dog to get on and off. Measuring your dog is a great way to ensure you are buying the correct bed for your pup.

With a flexible tape measure, pen and paper get your dog to stand up nicely. First measure from the nose to the backend where the tail begins. Secondly measure the front legs from the shoulder to the ground and then the same for their back legs. Now add the three measurements together and minus half the length of the front legs and this will give you the sprawl length of your dog.

Which Dog Bed?

Now, when it comes to deciding on which dog bed is right for your pet you need to consider the individual needs of your dog including breed, age, any health problems like arthritis, how they like to sleep and more. Not only this, but the dog bed needs to be practical; Is it easy to clean, does it retain the shape, does it provide insulation?

If you have a dog that likes swimming, then a waterproof bed might be your best option. If your dog is getting older and requires more support, you may wish to choose a memory foam bed. Alternatively, you could just want to buy an extra mattress or blanket for your pet’s current bed.
